Action Planning for Development
Action planning helps both players and coaches work on development areas.
Our aim is to empower players but also to equip coaches to work collaboratively with their players. Enabling them to reflect on feedback constructively. Working together, they can identify areas for development.
This multi-dimensional and collaborative approach to enhancing performance translates to all working environments. This study highlights that cues of working together can inspire motivation and increase enjoyment within performance. Taking this approach helps to manage the perceived pressure in a situation; whether this is on the court, at school or work.
Here the aim is to encourage both players and coaches to develop personally and particularly within specific areas. For example, this may be on the court or delivering training sessions, or in a work/school setting. By increasing self-awareness of your developmental areas in all dimensions of your life, you are able to notice how your skills and strengths can be applied from home life on to the court, as well as how you fit into the team.
By asking yourself questions (see examples below) and by working collaboratively with others, it will be possible to identify your areas of strength and areas for development. Practising self-reflection and asking for feedback is beneficial for development both on and off the court.
If there are areas in your basketball practice or your personal life that you find more difficult, confusing, mentally or physically draining or you’ve noticed you are avoiding certain tasks/practice/work, then action needs to be taken.
You are more likely to manage and thrive in these areas if you reflect, ask for feedback and act on the responses you receive. It is impossible to play at your optimum performance if you are not aware of your areas to develop.
